Pasta with Sausage, Mushrooms, and Lemon

I pinned a bunch of easy pasta recipes from A Cup of Jo awhile back. Finally got around to trying this Pasta with Sausage, Mushrooms, and Lemon that looked delicious!

IMG_5547I love these simple recipes where you boil the pasta while preparing the fixins. While I really enjoyed this recipe, the sausage was just not for me. Maybe I’m just not good at preparing meat, but it didn’t do it for me. Next time I’ll probably just make it with mushrooms. Angel hair pasta is becoming one of my favorites, it’s done in no time!

IMG_5544Can you see my “lemon zest” pieces? I really need to get a zester. I end up just peeling the skin and cutting it up! Overall, good flavors in this one. I’d definitely make it again!

Thick and Soft Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies

I’m always down to try new recipes, especially super easy cookies! Averie Cooks always has the most scrumptious looking recipes, no wonder she’s a hit on Pinterest. I had high hopes for these gluten free Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies, but sadly (as I’ve learned), easier recipes are not always the best!

These cookies were super easy to make, just combine the few ingredients, then chill the dough. I actually didn’t mind chilling the dough since it allowed me to bake the cookies whenever I wanted. The end result was a chewy, chocolately cookie.

IMG_5529I thought these were just ok. They tasted like brownies, but it wasn’t my favorite recipe. The cookies were very crumbly and fell apart easily. Maybe full gluten is better for cookies? Though, I’d definitely keep these in my back pocket if I ever have a friend who is gluten free!

Bootie LA

The name may sound a little odd, but Bootie LA is the best dance party in LA! It’s a weekly mashup party where guests can dance the night away for the small fee of $10.

The night I went to was Katy Perry/Taylor Swift mash up night where they featured music from both artists. It was my first time going to Bootie LA at The Regent in downtown and I loved the venue. Lots of space, parking, full bar, and good air conditioning. Bootie is also at the Echoplex in Echo Park some weeks and that venue is so hot and sweaty! I recommend The Regent over Echoplex.

IMG_4231-meThe crew!

My favorite part about Bootie LA was all the interesting people. Everyone shows up in crazy outfits and the stage has various dancers to entertain the crowd. I could just watch the dancers all night! They had a guy in a Starbucks uniform come out at one point and someone dressed as a power ranger. There was even an aerial dancer! There was also a photo booth and airbrush tattoo artist for fun.

IMG_5543Aerial Dancer! (Excuse my crappy cell phone photos)

I loved DJ’s choice of music for this night. It was awesome to hear the whole crowd singing Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer.” Word of caution for Bootie LA – make sure to dress in something light like shorts and a tank top — it gets hot! Also, wear close-toed or old shoes, your feet will probably get stepped on. Otherwise, be yourself and dance the night away!

Boursin Pasta with Spring Greens

I’m always looking for easy healthy recipes that can last me a few nights’ meals. This Boursin Pasta with Spring Greens recipe was just what I was looking for!

I wish I had some fancy step by step photos with various stages of making the dish, but no, not with this one, it’s that quick! You boil the pasta, then melt the cheese with 1 cup of pasta water. Then add the pasta shells and peas to the cheese. THAT easy! My only critique would be the peas overload, but I guess that’s healthy.

I decided to try some gluten-free pasta for this one. It was pretty good, but definitely not my favorite. I might just get regular shells next time. Also, Boursin cheese is located in the fancy cheeses by the deli section of the grocery store. I had to google that one!

Recently, I kept hearing about these CicLaVia events in LA, where they would close off streets and allow people to cycle through the city. I finally was able to participate this past Sunday!

CicLaVia strives to remove the cars from LA streets to connect the community. By removing the stress of traffic, it makes the streets safer for people to enjoy and explore the area.

My route went from Culver City to Venice. Honestly, I never make it out there because it’s super far, but having the convenience of a bicycle made it worthwhile. I was able to visit some parts of the city I’d never been, such as Abbot Kinney and the Venice Canals. Also, it was fun seeing everyone enjoying themselves on bikes and getting cheered on by onlookers.

IMG_5515Bad photo, but if you look closely, the bikes go all they way down the boulevard!

Overall, I loved CicLaVia and would definitely do it again. The route was perfect because it ended with a fun walk along Venice Beach. I was sad that I was out of town when CicLaVia came to Studio City, but I definitely hope they come back to the valley again. I already marked my calendar for their next event in October!

Easy 4 Ingredient Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookies

“It will be easy,” they said. But easy doesn’t always mean the best quality! I was craving something sweet last weekend and decided to whip up some easy cookies. I had pinned this recipe awhile back, so I thought, what the heck?

This recipe consists of 1 egg, sugar, peanut butter, and chocolate chips. Then, the recipe recommends rolling the cookies in sugar before placing them on the cookie sheet. Honestly, these didn’t do it for me, they were too sweet! You can see the sugar in the photo. Perhaps if I didn’t roll in sugar, they would be better.

I decided to toss these after the initial trial. Good riddance, cookies. Though, I still have faith in easy recipes. I really enjoyed these brownies previously and want to try these cookies sometime soon!
